A 29-year-old biker died after a speeding car hit him from behind and ran over him near the Lotus petrol pump in Lokhandwala, Oshiwara, on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Umashankar Rohini Prasad Shukla, a delivery agent by profession and a native of Madhya Pradesh.
According to the police, on Tuesday early morning, Shukla’s bike was hit from behind by a car near the Lotus petrol pump in Oshiwara. He fell down and suffered injuries to the head as it came under the rear wheels of the car.
The car’s driver stopped the vehicle after covering some distance. He then returned to the accident spot and put Shukla in an autorickshaw and took him to Cooper hospital. At the hospital, doctors declared Shukla dead, the police said.
Police identified an eyewitness, an autorickshaw driver, who narrated the incident to the police.
Police informed Shukla’s sister Meena in Madhya Pradesh about the tragic incident. The Shukla family are on their way to Mumbai to claim the body.
The Oshiwara police registered a suo-moto case and arrested the car’s driver, identified as Saurabh Solanki (42).
Solanki has been arrested under sections 106(1) (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash and negligent driving) of Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
Police have not specified how Solanki lost control over his vehicle and hit Shukla’s bike and are further investigating the matter.
