The torrential rain that crippled Mumbai on Wednesday has subsided with the public transportation, including bus and train services, resuming their operations on Thursday. Despite severe waterlogging and traffic snarls caused by the downpour, essential services were largely unaffected in the morning. State-run BEST bus services were back to their regular routes. However, four buses, including three owned by BEST and one on wet lease, were found to be damaged. Authorities are examining the extent of the damage and working to ensure there are no further operational issues. A BEST spokesperson said, “While the situation has largely improved with the rainfall subsiding, the bus operations within the city are stable. Four buses have been identified as damaged so far”. Train services that came to a halt on Wednesday following the waterlogging on tracks started operations on Thursday. The Central Railway stated, “All local trains are running normally. On the main line, trains are 3-4 minutes behind schedule due to rescheduled mail express movements”. Meanwhile, the suburban services under the Western Railway were also restored as water levels receded at important stations. Heavy rain caused a landslide at the Mumbra bypass on Wednesday night.
