Back home,Chavan says need to watchout for backstabbers

Former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said that ups and downs are a part of life but it’s necessary to beware of backstabbers.

Former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan on Friday said that ups and downs are a part of life but it’s necessary to beware of backstabbers.

Chavan was in his Assembly constituency of Bhokar,Nanded district,to address a party workers’ meeting. This was his first visit to Bhokar since he stepped down as the chief minister. Commenting on NDA’s attack on the government over the 2G scam,Chavan said that the alliance’s allegations were baseless. He said the NDA was targeting the Prime Minister but the BJP was silent on Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yedyurrappa’s alleged involvement in multi-crore land scams. The former CM said he wouldn’t tolerate anyone targeting the Congress and will take efforts to expand the party in the state. “Being in power or not makes no difference to me and I will continue taking efforts to increase Congress power,” Chavan said.

The former chief minister said he has faced many ups and downs in his political career but such incidents occurred while working in public life. He said allegations against him in the Adarsh scam did not mean an end of his career. The matter is under investigation and it will reveal truth,Chavan said. “I was unaware of enemies who attacked from behind. But now it’s necessary to take care of them as they are more dangerous and create huge losses… I am not scared or worried about investigations as I have no role in the scam. Let the enquiry complete and disclose the truths,” he added.

He said the large number of supporters who gathered for the party meet were proof of his clean image and assured Nanded that development work would continue. He also urged party workers to unite under the Congress banner and avoid groupism.
