As many as 10 police personnel from the Nirmal Nagar police station, who caught the two shooters who allegedly opened fire at NCP leader and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddiqui killing him on Saturday night, may soon get reward for their action. Confirming the development, a senior police officer said that the process to reward the ten police personnel has been initiated. “ We acknowledged and appreciated their efforts on the local level and have put forward a proposal for the reward,” the officer said. Among the ten police personnel are: Assistant Inspector R Dabhade, constables Sandeep Awhad, and Police Sub-Inspector Bankar, head constables Amol Pawar and Suhas Nalawde, constables Amol Wakade, Sagar Koyende, Mane, MSF guard Pawar. According to police sources, after the firing, one accused managed to escape, while two others — Gurmail Singh and Dharmaraj Kashyap — were caught. After discovering about the firing incident, constables Sandeep Awhad, Amol Wakade, and Pawar were looking for the accused in the Children Complex, a garden around 100 metre away from the firing spot. Awhad sensed the movement of a person inside the bushes, and it in the dark. Seeing Awhad, the suspect went deeper inside. According to police, Awhad heard the sound of some metal object hitting the wall. He went in that direction and managed to nab the accused. Awhad, while handling over the accused to API Dabhade, asked him what was he doing in the dark and what was he carrying. The accused told him, “Mere paas ghoda tha aur wo wahi pe gir gaya (I was carrying a firearem and it fell there)”. Awhad, along with Amol Wakade, rushed back to the place and retrieved a pistol, a live bullet, and a bag. On examining the bag, three more rounds were found. The two handed over the firearm and the bullet to PSI Bankar from the detection team, police said.
