The Juhu Chandan Chowky unit of the state Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Thursday arrested three people— Mohammed Arshad,Sakir Sheikh and Matlub Quresh— for distributing fake currency. They had 784 notes of Rs 100 denomination, according to the ATS.

The trio was nabbed after assistant police inspector Sunil Mane received a tip-off that they were going to assemble in North Mumbai to circulate the cash. A team, led by police inspector Sanjeev Tonapi with API Sunil Patil and Mane, laid a trap to arrest them. All the three belong to Malad and have told the ATS that the notes with governor Y V Reddy’s signature were being printed in the country. Probe is on to establish their network and conduct seizures at the printing press.
