A 17-year-old hotel management student allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his Kandivali residence on Wednesday. Police have, however, not found any suicide note.
According to the Kandivali police, the deceased,Mangesh More, was a resident of Sudanshu society at MG road in Kandivali (West) where he lived with his father,a private firm employee, his mother,a fruit vendor, and brother,a student. Mangesh was a first-year hotel management student.
The police said that while his parents and brother were away on Wednesday,Mangesh hanged himself from the ceiling fan in his living room. When his parents returned at 8.30 pm,there was no response to their repeated knocks, following which they broke the door with the help of neighbours.
Mangesh was immediately rushed to Bhagwati Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Police have filed an accidental death report.
Mangeshs mother told the police that he was unhappy with the hotel management course and wanted to quit, but was unable to do so as his family had spent huge amount of money on the course, police said.
H Pimple, senior inspector of Kandivali police station said,His family said that he used to be busy on his mobile phone on most occasions. We are scanning his mobile phone to get clues as to why he took such as drastic step.
Infant kidnapped,abandoned
A three-year-old was allegedly kidnapped after she stepped out alone of her house in Ekta Nagar,Kandivali (West),on Wednesday evening. The girl was, however, found abandoned in Malwani a few hours later.
Police said the child left home after her mother forgot to lock the door before going out to buy vegetables at about 6 pm. The mother returned to find the child missing and approached Kandivali Police, said an officer at Malwani Police Station. Malwani Police received a call from locals at about 8 pm that a child had been found crying near the mangroves in the area.
Enquiries revealed a toddler had been reported missing in Kandivali, after which Malwani Police handed over the girl.
We have registered a kidnapping case as it is not possible for a toddler to travel from Kandivali to Malwani alone. We suspect the girl was taken by someone and abandoned. We have sent the girl to Bhagwati Hospital for a medical check-up to ascertain if she was raped, said H Pimple, senior inspector at Kandivali Police Station.
