Teen falls off a moving train
A 15-year-old girl sustained grievous injuries after she fell off a moving train between Mankhurd and Vashi stations. According to the Vashi railway police,the girl has been identified as Pooja Rathod and resides in the slums behind Hotel Parkland in Sanpada. As per the statement of the victims elder sister Anusuya,around 10.25 pm on Tuesday night,while the victim was on her way to her residence with her elder sister,she went to the door to throw something out of the train. In the process she lost her balance and fell off the moving train,sustaining serious head injuries. She was rushed to the Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital (LTMG) where the condition is reportedly critical.
Governor confers honorary D.Litt on Asha
The Governor of Maharashtra and Chancellor of Universities in the state K Sankaranarayanan conferred the Honorary D.Litt. (Doctor of Letters) degree on playback singer Asha Bhosale in an event conducted at the 17th Convocation of the Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) at YCMOU University campus Dnyangangotri near the Gangapur Dam in Nashik on Tuesday morning. Professor Rajasekharan Pillai,the Vice-Chancellor of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) delivered the convocation address on the occasion.
Soon,SMS to register water woes
To address water issues,the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation plans to put in place an SMS system to register citizens complaints. SMS is a simple and convenient way to lodge complaints. We are in the process of developing a system, said Rajiv Jalota,Additional Municipal Commissioner. We will forward the complaints to the concerned ward and it will help in the redressal mechanism. It is important to locate the point of contamination. We are trying to understand the root of contamination from the samples procured, Jalota said. The Bombay High Court had recently pulled up the civic administration while hearing a petition filed by Siddharth Khandagale from Worli after two pregnant women allegedly died of illnesses from drinking contaminated water.
Labourer held with revolver
A 25-year-old daily wage labourer from Uttar Pradesh has been arrested from Marine Drive for allegedly possessing a revolver and four cartridges,the police said. Rohitkumar Singh was found moving suspiciously last night at the Marine Drive area by a girl,who alerted a police constable. Kumar claimed he had procured the weapon from one of his friends in Mumbai.
