From Shirdi to Vadodara to Godhra: How Anil Jaisinghani was arrested after evading Mumbai Police thrice
A senior crime branch officer said Jaisinghani was arrested from the border of Godhra district in Gujarat by a crime branch team. Jaisinghani would be produced before the court Monday.

The Mumbai crime branch Sunday night arrested bookie Anil Jaisinghani, who was named as an accused in the case related to the alleged extortion of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s wife Amruta Fadnavis.
A senior crime branch officer said Jaisinghani was arrested from the border of Godhra district in Gujarat by a crime branch team. Jaisinghani would be produced before the court Monday.
Jaisinghani’s daughter Aniksha was arrested in the case last week. Jaisinghani, an influential cricket bookie and history-sheeter, had been on the run for over seven years.
“We were on his trail for the past three days but would miss him by a few minutes. Eventually, last night we arrested him from the border of Godhra district. The team got him to the city on Monday morning and handed him over to the Malabar Hill police station,” an officer said.
The Malabar Hill police registered an FIR on February 20 against the father-daughter duo for allegedly trying to blackmail Amruta by threatening to make public some audio and video clips that would make it appear that the latter was accepting favours from her. As per the complaint, Aniksha had befriended Amruta over the past few years and gained her trust.
As per the complaint, when she asked Amruta to help get rid of cases against her father, the latter blocked her. A few days later, Aniksha was alleged to have sent audio and video recordings to Amruta to blackmail her. Following this, Amruta approached the Malabar Hill police.
