Amit Shah to unveil statues of Dr Vithalrao Vikhe-Patil and Balasaheb Vikhe-Patil in Ahilyanagar next month

The decision comes following Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil's meeting with Shah in Delhi on Saturday. Vikhe-Patil was accompanied by his son, former MP Sujay Vikhe-Patil.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will unveil the life-size statues of Vithalrao Vikhe-Patil and Balasaheb Vikhe-Patil at Ahilyanagar in mid-October. The decision comes following Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil’s meeting with Shah in Delhi on Saturday. Vikhe-Patil was accompanied by his son, former MP Sujay Vikhe-Patil.

The meeting between Vikhe-Patil and Amit Shah holds significance as it comes shortly after the deadlock between state government and activist Manoj Jarange-Patil over Maratha reservation came to an end.

Vikhe-Patil was the head of cabinet sub-committee that held final discussions with Jarange-Patil. He led the delegation and presented the government resolution on Hyderabad Gazette that helped to buy peace with an aggressive Jarange-Patil.

“I met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and extended invitation for unveiling the of statue of Dr Vithalrao Vikhe-Patil and Balasaheb Vikhe Patil at Ahilyanagar. He has responded positively,” Vikhe-Patil told media persons on Saturday. He also denied any political agenda behind meeting the Union Home Minister.
Vikhe-Patil’s father was late Balasaheb Vikhe-Patil and grandfather Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil.

Dr Vithalrao Vikhe Patil (August 29, 1901-April 21, 1980), a recipient of Padma Shri, had started the first sugar factory in the cooperative sector in India and whole of Asia at Loni in Rahata tehsil of Ahilyanagar, earlier known as Ahmednagar district. He is recognised for his innovative and immense contribution in cooperation movement.

Former Union Minister Dr Balasaheb Vikhe-Patil (April 10, 1932 – December 30, 2016), was a recipient of Padma Vibhushan. The veteran leader and MP represented Kopargaon and Ahmednagar in the Lok Sabha and was the minister for heavy industries in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government. He was appointed pro-tem speaker of 14th Lok Sabha.

“Amit Shah ji will visit Pravara Nagar in Loni Budruk in Ahilyanagar district in mid-October for the event,” Vikhe-Patil said.

Water Resources Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, an eight-term MLA from Shirdi, visited Shah in New Delhi and extended the invitation, which he had accepted.

Shah will inaugurate the Padma Shri Dr Vithalrao Vikhe-Patil Cooperative Sugar Factory’s new crushing season, unveil life-size statues of Dr Vithalrao Vikhe-Patil and Dr Balasaheb Vikhe-Patil and attend Shiv Mahapuran Katha by Pradeep Mishra, as per the scheduled plan shared by Vikhe-Patil.
