The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued a 'yellow' alert for Mumbai and its neighbouring districts of Thane and Palghar, stating the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated pockets. While the weather department had earlier issued a 'green' alert, implying moderate showers, the warning was upgraded after the city and its suburbs experienced increased rainfall since Tuesday morning. Furthermore, for Wednesday, IMD has sounded an 'orange' warning, indicating heavy to very rainfall in few places, for Mumbai and Thane. After a week of incessant downpour, the city had witnessed subdued, moderate showers throughout Sunday. According to the data furnished by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) recording apparatus, the island city division received a maximum rainfall at 33 mm between 8am of Monday and Tuesday. The western suburbs received 18.62 mm of rain followed by the eastern suburbs which received 13.21 mm of downpour. Meanwhile, IMD's Santacruz observatory recorded 22 mm of rainfall and the coastal observatory situated at Colaba registered 42 mm of downpour on Monday.
