Amboli murder accused keep low profile in jail, claim they’re innocent

The four accused arrested in connection with the murder of Keenan Santos and Reuben Fernandez claimed they are innocent.

The four accused arrested in connection with the murder of Keenan Santos and Reuben Fernandez claimed they are innocent. Main accused Jeetendra Rana,Deepak Piswal,Sunil Both and Satish Durgraj are currently lodged at the Arthur Road Jail till the case comes up for trial.

Senior prison officers revealed that the four accused do not talk to other inmates and prefer to keep a low profile. “They only interact among themselves. Even if they need to talk to others, they do so when all of them are together. They are a closed group and their interaction with other inmates is very limited,” said a senior officer requesting anonymity.

“The four accused told some other prisoners and a few jail staff that they haven’t committed the crime. They claim they do not even know who Keenan and Reuben were. Whether or not they are innocent can only be proved in a court of law. But it’s normal for most accused to plead innocence and allege a frame-up,” the officer said.

Officers revealed that the four are being held with nearly 200 other inmates. “They are not being kept separately. We have placed them with other prisoners. They do speak to them if they need anything, but mostly stay aloof,” he added.

The jail officer said only the main accused Rana had visitors so far. “Someone had come to meet him in prison. Both,Durgraj and Piswal have not had any visitors yet. They keep saying someone they know will come to meet them. But no one has come till now,” he added.
