State Minister Ashish Shelar on Wednesday directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation officials to make provisions on the dashboard for road concretisation works to allow citizens to upload complaints regarding damages to utilities caused during various road works.
The contractor responsible for the damages will be penalised and restoration of trenches dug alongside roads should be completed within 15 days, said Shelar, who is the Guardian Minister of Mumbai Suburbs.
Shelar convened a joint review meeting with Additional Municipal Commissioner (Roads & Bridges) Abhijit Bangar and other officials concerned to discuss potholes, traffic congestion and other civic issues.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Shelar said, “Mumbai has a total of 2,121 roads. Of these, 771 roads have been completed, 574 are partially completed, and work on 776 roads is yet to begin. Out of a total of 798 kilometers planned under Phase 1 and Phase 2, 342 kilometers have been completed.”
In the H-West ward, which has 157 roads, 54 roads are completed, 47 are partially completed, and work on 60 roads is yet to begin.
The BMC has developed a dashboard named “Cement Concretization Roads in Mumbai”.
This dashboard, opened to the public on September 4, provides a list of roads, mapping, photos of completed work, contact details of contractors and officials, as well as plans for upcoming works.
Shelar said that citizens should be able to upload complaints related to roads in their area directly on the dashboard.
He also instructed that before granting permission for new roads, mapping and coordination of ongoing sewer, water and electricity works should be ensured.
In the H-West ward, priority must be given to contractors who deliver quality work on time, while pending roadworks should be completed without delay, he told officials.
