A day after Congress MP Rahul Gandhi claimed that a certain leader from Maharashtra who recently quit the party to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had called his mother Sonia Gandhi to say that he was being harassed by the agencies and he had no power to fight against them, former chief minister Ashok Chavan said it is “laughable and illogical” if the Congress leader meant about him. Chavan had joined the BJP recently.

“I did not meet Sonia Gandhi before tendering resignation. Therefore, any statement in this regard is wrong, laughable and illogical,” Chavan said, adding, “I was working in the Congress headquarters till the last minute. The information was revealed after I tendered my resignation and quit the party. Nobody knew about my resignation till then.”

Addressing a rally of INDIA bloc in Mumbai on Sunday, Gandhi said, “I don’t want to name anyone, but a leader from Maharashtra called my mother. He told her that he was being harassed by the ED and income tax. He pleaded her saying he has no strength to fight against them and hence he was going to join the BJP,” said Gandhi.
