After his ‘bangles’ remark,NCP likens Raj to a ‘Natrang’

Raj Thackeray’s call to women in the state to collect bangles and send to Home Minister R R Patil drew an angry response from the NCP,which said Saturday that the MNS chief’s remarks was an insult to the women community.

“Raj Thackeray’s decision to hand over bangle boxes to the home minister is an insult to the entire women community across the state and country. I wish to remind Raj that his mother also wears bangles. Women across the country wear bangles, which does not mean they are good for nothing,” NCP women’s wing president Vidya Chavan said, while likening Thackeray to a “Natrang”,a character in Marathi movie by the same title which loosely means a mimicry artiste.

Thackeray had made the bangles remarks on Friday,a day after a photo journalist was gangraped in Shakti Mills Compound at Mahalaxmi.

MNS,however, defended his remarks. “MNS president’s remark on bangles should not be twisted out of context. His statement was to point out the failure of the home ministry,” party leader Bala Nandgaonkar said.

Meanwhile,NCP’s women members held a demonstration at their party headquarters Saturday, raising anti-Raj Thackeray slogans.
