Ajmal Kasab, sentenced to death for the 26/11 attack, has been using his time in solitary confinement making notes of whatever he thinks can help his cause when he goes into appeal in the High Court. Kasab said he cannot remember things, asked for pen and paper, and has been given these, sources in Arthur Road jail said. Two weeks ago, when the lawyers appointed to represent him met him,he told them he did not remember things and it would help if he was given pen and paper to write down anything that can be beneficial in his appeal. The authorities gave him stationery and since then he has been writing in Urdu, a jail source said. Yes,he had asked us to request jail officials to give him stationery and he might have been given it, his lawyer Amin Solkar said. Kasab had asked for pen and paper in July 2009,when special judge M L Tahaliyani was trying him. He had pleaded guilty (he later revoked what he said) and said he wanted to sketch two Lashkar-e-Toiba operatives who had masterminded the attack. Later, prison officials told the court the sketches had turned out to be doodles. Solkar said,We will meet him again on Saturday and he could hand over whatever he has written. If it is worthwhile it can be added to the appeal. Kasab already has documents pertaining to the trial, evidence and chargesheet. Sources said his lawyers had asked him if he wanted to add anything to the appeal they are preparing, but he told them he has have full faith in them and will go by whatever they decide. Kasab was the only one of 10 attackers nabbed alive. He has been in Arthur Road prison since February 2009,kept in a specially made bulletproof,explosives-proof cell guarded by Indo-Tibetan Border Police.
