Affair turns sour, constable accused of raping colleague

The Thane Nagar police on Wednesday arrested constable Uttareshwar Munde for allegedly raping a colleague.

The Thane Nagar police on Wednesday arrested constable Uttareshwar Munde (25) for allegedly raping a colleague. According to the police, the complaint was registered after an alleged affair between Munde and a woman constable turned sour when Munde married a girl of his parents’ choice.

Munde,a native of Osmanabad district, has been a constable at the police headquarters for the past one year. There he came in contact with a woman (21),also from Osmanabad, who had joined as a recruit but had not completed the training. The woman used to visit the headquarters regularly. Since both were from the same district, they hit it off instantly.

The woman has alleged that Munde promised her marriage after which they got intimate. In April, the woman went to Nagpur for training. In the meantime,Munde had an arranged marriage. On May 30,when the victim came to know of it,she left the training mid-way,resigned and rushed back to Mumbai.

She then registered a complaint with the Thane Nagar police station. Munde has been remanded in police custody till June 24.
