A day after arrest, ‘miracle doc’ gets health problems, lands in hospital

Khan was presented before the court on Tuesday when he was remanded to police custody till April 4.

Self-proclaimed ‘miracle doctor’ Munir Khan, who was arrested by the Versova police on Tuesday and remanded to police custody, was admitted to the hospital for health problems in the early hours of Wednesday.

Officers from Versova police station said that Khan, who was lodged at a lock-up in the Andheri police station, began complaining of chest pains and breathing problems late on Tuesday night, “Khan was rushed to the Cooper Hospital in Vile Parle. From there, he was shifted to the JJ Hospital,” said Ravindra Pawar, Senior Police Inspector, Versova police station.

Pawar further said that they had presented Khan before the court on Tuesday when he was remanded to police custody till April 4.

“Khan has been admitted on doctor’s advise. It would be difficult to question him and investigate the case further if Khan remains in the hospital,” said Satyanarayan Chowdhay, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 9).

J J hospital’s dean, Dr T P Lahane, said, “The investigations in the case are on. He has not yet been admitted. He
complained of chest pain, and tests were taken by the cardiology department.

Additionally, medicine department also conducted some tests. Based on the reports, we will take a call whether he requires an admission.”

Khan had also made a similar claim back in 2010, when he was first arrested by the Versova police. He had complained of breathing problems and rushed to the Cooper Hospitals shortly after being remanded to police custody.

“We are in touch with the doctors at JJ hospital and taking an update on Khan’s health regularly,” said an officer from the Versova police station.

According to the Versova police, they had asked for police custody to find out more about Khan’s team members who were involved in manufacturing and marketing of his tonic ‘Body Revival’, which claims to cure chronic and life threatening deceases like cancer, diabetes and a host of other ailments.

“We will arrest the members of Khan’s team as they have also been named in the FIR filed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA),” said the officer.

The FDA had last year  received information that Khan had restarted sale of Body  Revival from his Versova-based clinic.

Two decoy FDA officials, of whom one was a lady, then visited Khan’s clinic in Patel Nagar at Versova in Andheri (West) on March 18 this year posing as patients and laid a trap, after which he was arrested.
