For the past few months, such cases were on a rise, following which, senior officers of the Mumbai police had asked the cyber police to act in these cases on a priority.

The accused used the details to make fraudulent transactions. For the past few months, such cases were on a rise, following which, senior officers of the Mumbai police had asked the cyber police to act in these cases on a priority.
DCP (cyber) Balsingh Rajput said four separate teams were formed to probe four cases related to the same modus operandi. The officer added that based on technical investigation, teams were sent to Jharkhand and Kolkata from where several of the accused were operating.
In one particular case, three accused were operating from Worli in Mumbai. The police also arrested a call centre employee from Vasai who had provided data to the accused.
An officer said some of the accused were operating from parts of Jharkhand that were under Naxal influence, making it difficult for the police to track and arrest them. The officer said that they are questioning the accused persons to identify others who were a part of the set up so that the entire network can be uprooted.
