The Western Railway (WR) conducted a special drive against trespassers and passengers travelling in coaches reserved for physically-challenged from September 1 to 15 on its suburban section. For this purpose,a team comprising 15 ticket checking staff and 15 railway cops had been deployed. Accodring to WR,74 people were prosecuted for trespassing railway premises and an amount of Rs 36,500 was collected as fine from them. One person has been sent to jail,said WR officials. Similarly, as many as 34 persons were caught travelling in coaches meant for physically-challenged and an amount of Rs 9834 has been recovered as fine from them. Shyam Sunder Gupta,chief public relations officer,WR,said,People should understand the value of their life and not indulge in trespassing. Commuters should not inconvenience physically-challenged passengers by travelling in coaches earmarked for them.
