The report also mentioned that for a 19-day trip to London, Wankhede had claimed Rs 1 lakh as the expense. When contacted, Wankhede said, "I have relatives staying in Europe, and I did not stay at five-star hotels during these trips... so, there were no major expenses."

The Narcotics Control Bureau’s (NCB) vigilance report against its former Mumbai zone chief Sameer Wankhede states that in five years — between 2017 and 2021 — Wankhede had made six private foreign trips with his family to the United Kingdom, Ireland, Portugal, South Africa, and Maldives. These foreign trips spanned over 55 days, with a declared expenditure of Rs 8.75 lakh, which as per the report, barely covered the air travel fare.

The report also mentioned that for a 19-day trip to London, Wankhede had claimed Rs 1 lakh as the expense. When contacted, Wankhede said, “I have relatives staying in Europe, and I did not stay at five-star hotels during these trips… so, there were no major expenses.”

Wankhede and his friend Viral Jamaluddin stayed at the Taj Exotica in Maldives, along with their families and domestic workers in July 2021, and paid the expenses via a credit card, the report added.

Wankhede had mentioned this amount to be Rs 7.5 lakh. According to the report, the hotel expenses were paid on December 18, 2021, through his friend Jamaluddin’s credit card after the SIT launched a probe against Wankhede in October 2021, following the extortion allegations.

On this, Wankhede said, “He is a family friend, and I have made the necessary payments to him.”

The report further mentioned, “Expenses for these declared private visits abroad have apparently been under-reported by Sameer Wankhede. In all these visits, the expenditure incurred towards travelling, lodging, boarding, visa, and miscellaneous expenditure declared by him was in between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 2.5 lakh, which is clearly wrong declaration or under-reporting.”

The SIT report mentioned that Wankhede had bought a Rolex Gold watch — retailing at Rs 22,05,000 — for Rs 17,40,000 on credit from his friend Viral. The vigilance probe panel found multiple invoices or quotes for the same watch, and expressed doubts on its authenticity. “My wife, who has only purchased one watch in her entire life, gifted me that watch, for which she paid money in installments,” Wankhede replied.

The report further mentioned that Wankhede owns four flats in Mumbai, to which he said, “I do not have four, but six flats. SIT does not seem to have done their job well. All these properties were from the time before I joined the service, so there is nothing wrong in it.”
