Eleven boys from the observation home were taken for a picnic in Bhor with the permission of the Juvenile Justice Board. The activity is part of a rehabilitation effort for Juveniles in Conflict with law supported by a Mumbai-based institute. After the picnic, around 5 pm, six boys left the group on the pretext of answering nature’s call and did not return. The social workers and guards searched for them but they could not be found.
The observation home authorities approached Bhor police with a missing person complaint. Sharad Kurhade, superintendent of the observation home said, “The effort was part of initiatives we carry out for these boys and permission was taken from the Juvenile Justice Board. We have informed the families of the boys about the incident.”
Inspector H D Chaugule of Bhor police station said, “We have registered an offence under Section 224 of the IPC for escaping from official custody and we have launched a search in the area. All the police stations in the Pune districts have been alerted.”
