A week after it became operational, two women and three accompanying minors survived a car accident on Mumbai Trans-harbour Link Road, also known as Atal Setu, on Sunday afternoon.

The accident occured at 3 pm on the Sewri bound side of the highway and about 12 kms from Mumbai. The red hatchback car the five were traveling in went out of control, hit the divider and toppled over.

The accident was captured on camera by a passenger in another car on the highway.

“The accident occured when the car was going from Chirle to Sewri. All passengers are stable. It was a minor accident,” said a senior police officer.

The car did not hit any other cars on the highway, he added. This is the first accident on the trans-harbour link road which was inaugurated on January 12 and opened to the public on January 13.

The speed limit on the bridge is 100 kmhs. It is unclear whether the car was speeding beyond the permissible limit.
