4.5% sub-quota: IITs ask students to submit undertaking
The Indian Institutes of Technology have now issued a notification, stating that 4.5 per cent of the seats will be reserved for backward class minorities within the 27 per cent quota for Other Backward Classes this year.
The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have now issued a notification, stating that 4.5 per cent of the seats will be reserved for backward class minorities within the 27 per cent quota for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) this year. The candidates will have to belong to the non-creamy layer.
If you belong to OBC minority category and would like to claim the seats reserved for this category, you are requested to submit a declaration/undertaking stating that you belong to OBC-minority category and you are entitled for 4.5 per cent of the seats reserved exclusively for this category, says the IIT-JEE 2012 notification.
Students will have to submit the undertaking or declaration by March 20. The declarations / undertakings, which are not signed by the candidate and countersigned by parents, will be rejected.
The sub-quota,to be implemented in Central government jobs and Central educational institutions, was recently passed by the Cabinet. However, the IITs had sought a clarification from the HRD Ministry on the issue last week as they were yet to receive a government order on the same. Subsequently, the Ministry official had informed the IITs that the minority quota will be applicable for admissions from 2012 itself.
