20% cut in water supply from today

The civic bodies will follow the earlier schedule of water for limited hours in areas with 24/7 supply.

With less than normal rainfall in June and lake levels dipping, the BMC has announced a 20 per cent cut in water supply in the city starting Thursday.

“There will be a 20 per cent cut in the duration of water supply, which differs for all the areas in the city. Quantity-wise, it means about 10-15 per cent cut in water supply in all the areas,” Ramesh Bambale, chief engineer (hydraulic department), said.

For areas that receive a 24/7 supply of water from the BMC, the civic body will start following the earlier schedule, which is for a limited number of hours. Therefore, wards S (Bhandup), N (Ghatkopar) and T (Mulund), which receive 24/7 supply, will now get water only from 8.30 am to 3.30 pm.

“We will extend the water supply cuts depending on the rainfall in July and August. As of now, we have decided to do a review every 10 days to asses the situation,” said another civic official from the hydraulic department. ENS
