2 women foil chain-snatching bid,chase & nab 2 suspects

Two housewives chased and caught two chain snatchers in Mahim.

Two housewives chased and caught two chain snatchers in Mahim Sunday. Margaret D’souza and her sister Florence Carlos left St Michael’s Church at 9 am and were on their way to a nearby bus stop when two men on a bike approached them.

“The pillion rider snatched Margaret’s chain. However,she caught his hand and both of us shouted for help,” said Florence.

For a few minutes,both the driver and pillion rider struggled with the two sisters. The commotion attracted the attention of passersby,who approached to help. Margaret and Florence pushed the bike,causing it to fall. The duo then tried to run away.

Margaret caught hold of the man who was riding the bike while Florence chased the pillion rider and nabbed him after a short chase. Eyewitnesses rushed forward and overpowered the duo,and by this time,three constables with Mahim police also reached the spot. The duo were arrested.

“The accused have been identified as Shahbaaz Isaak Sheikh and Arif Abdul Sattar Sheikh. Shahbaaz stays in Nagpada while Arif is a resident of Sir JJ Road,” said DCP Dhananjay Kulkarni.

“We knew it was risky but felt no fear when we fought back,” said Florence. Both sisters are married and each has two children. Margaret stays in Vile Parle while Florence lives in Santacruz.

“The courage shown by the two sisters is remarkable. We will be felicitating them in the presence of the commissioner at the monthly crime conference,” Kulkarni added.
