A loose steel plate got detached from the under-frame of a coach of Maharaja Express and hit two passengers at Ghatkopar station around 5.30 pm Saturday. Arjun Ishwar Shinde,27,and Rajan Nair ,40,suffered head injuries and were taken to Rajawadi Hospital. Shinde,a resident of Dombivli,was later shifted to Sion Hospital and doctors said he was critical. Nair,a resident of Kalyan,was stable,a senior railway official said. “A probe is on,” he added.

Coconut vendor run over,youth held

MUMBAI: An 18-year-old Juhu resident was arrested for allegedly running over a coconut vendor,killing him,in the early hours of Saturday. Police said Arshad Juneja was out for a drive in his Volkswagen with four friends when the accident occurred on Juhu Tara Road around 5.30 am. “Juneja took a turn at high speed. The car crashed into a coconut stall by the roadside and the vendor,Mohammed Rashid,50,who was sleeping inside,was killed. The car stopped against a boundary wall of Juhu beach,” said an officer. Rashid was taken to a hospital where he was declared brought dead. Juneja and his friends were taken into custody. “Juneja was not found to be drunk at the time of the accident,” said senior inspector Arun Chavan.
