Worli police Wednesday lodged an FIR against two former employees of perfume company for allegedly stealing confidential company data and sharing it with a competitor.
The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita based on the complainant by the executive director of the Worli-based company, which is into importing and distributing luxury perfumes and beauty products across India.
According to the complainant, one of the accused worked as a senior manager with the brands team until his resignation in July 2023, when he joined a rival company.
The second accused, was a senior executive in the e-commerce department until July 2024, after which he also joined another firm.
After the resignation of the senior executive in July 2024, the company discovered three emails sent on July 5, 2024, from his official email account to the former senior manager.
These emails contained an file with sensitive information, including sales data of three years, product details, prices, and monthly sales figures— vital for the company’s business planning and strategies, as per the complainant.
The executive director subsequently filed a formal complaint with the Worli police. After a preliminary inquiry, a case was registered.
“The complainant has also raised suspicions about a rival company, suggesting that it might have offered the former employees higher salaries to entice them into sharing the confidential data. It is likely that the competitor used financial incentives to gain access to our proprietary information,” said an officer.
