According to police, the patient, identified as Prasad Devendra, went to the hospital with injuries on his lips and nose. While the doctor was treating him, he allegedly abused her verbally as it caused severe pain.

“According to the relatives, when the woman doctor in the ENT section removed his dressing to examine the injury, the patient suffered severe pain. Later, when the doctor started writing the prescription, there was some miscommunication and an altercation between the relatives and the doctor. That is when the patient’s relatives threw a gauze piece on the doctor’s face. The doctor also sustained scratches on her arm,” he added.

A police officer said, “There was an altercation between the patient, his family members and the resident doctor, after which they allegedly assaulted her. The woman resident doctor then alerted her colleagues and reported the matter at the police station.”

Police said they have recorded the doctor’s statement and registered a case under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and also sections 3 and 4 of Maharashtra Medical Services and Medical Services Institutions (Prevention of Violent Acts and Loss or Damage to Property) Act 2010 against Devendra and his sister identified as Shweta.

“We have detained them at the police station and currently our investigation is underway. Nobody has been arrested yet,” a senior police officer added.
