19-year-old gets 15 days in jail for crossing tracks

Nineteen-year-old Ajit Yadav never imagined that crossing tracks would land him behind the bars. The youth who was caught while crossing tracks at Dadar station was awarded 15 days imprisonment by the metropolitan court in Mumbai Central on Friday.

Besides Yadav,a local court in Andheri awarded five days simple imprisonment to three others arrested for crossing the tracks. They have been identified as Sachin Mahadev (29),a resident of Virar,Tej Raj (18),a native of Orissa and Roman Rana (20),a Bandra resident. “The three were arrested by RPF officials from Bandra station.”

According to Shyam Sunder Gupta,chief spokesperson,Western Railway,Yadav was arrested by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials on Thursday noon at Dadar station while he was crossing the tracks. Railway officials said,Yadav,a resident of Badlapur works with a private firm in Dadar.

The WR has been carrying out various drives to create awareness among commuters. Over 2,226 people were arrested for trespassing and fine amounting to Rs 61,700 was collected in June alone. “In spite of this,people continue to cross the tracks and risk their lives. We have also been publishing advertisements,playing jingles on radio to desist people from crossing tracks,” added Gupta.
