“The neighbours saw Mateen only around 7 am,and by then he had already lost a great deal of blood. They rushed him to the JJ Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His aunt does not know much about the victim’s lifestyle as he remained outdoors for most of the day. She has, however, mentioned that she had seen him in the company of one Chingya,a local drug peddler. While we are yet to zero in on a motive,we suspect that he was murdered over a past fight,” said police inspector Bhalchandra Rane, who is investigating the case.

The police said they have brought in some friends of the victim for questioning.

“Mateen was from a village in West Bengal and had come to the city eight years ago for work. He began staying with his aunt Amina, who works as a maidservant and he himself did odd jobs as a wireman and also worked in the fish market. We are trying to trace his friends who might be able to provide us some clue,” said assistant police inspector Balasaheb Ghawate.
