Days after two people were killed on May 19 in an accident involving a Porsche car in Pune, a 15-year-old boy on a bike rammed into another biker in Mumbai early on Thursday causing the latter’s death.
According to police officials, the minor was detained on the spot, while his elderly father was arrested later in the day for allowing him to ride his bike.
The police said that at around 7.15am on Thursday, the two bikers were riding in opposite directions on Nesbit Bridge at Mazgaon in Byculla, when they allegedly crashed into each other.
An officer from JJ Marg police station said, “The 15-year-old was going to get breakfast in the morning but he did not inform his father that he was taking his bike. However, mid-way he ended up crashing into another biker coming from the opposite side leading to his death.”
The deceased has been identified as Irfan Nawab Ali Shaikh, 32, and he ran a garment business out of his home in Mazgaon.
The police said that after the incident, the minor did not escape from the spot as locals called and informed the authorities.
“Our team went to the spot and rushed the ailing person to the hospital. He was declared dead during treatment,” said an officer.
A case of rash and negligent driving was registered against the minor under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicle Act.
“We have detained the minor and sent him to a remand home. His father was arrested later in the day as it was his negligence that caused the accident. He should have ensured that his minor son was not riding his bike,” an investigator added.
The police said that the father is into shoe-making business.
