The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday announced a 10 per cent water cut in the city in the upcoming week, between November 20 and December 2.
According to the civic body, the decision to impose the water cut was taken in a bid to carry out emergency repair of the pneumatic gate system works at the Pise Weir (small Pise Dam) which supplies water to the city.
Pise Dam is a low water reservoir that stores and channelises water from the Bhatsa Lake, which is one of the seven lakes supplying water to Mumbai. The Pise reservoir also supplies water to several industrial and residential pockets across Thane.
“The pneumatic gate system installed at Pise Weir requires emergency repairs. The replacement of air bladders in the pneumatic gate system at Pise will be conducted from Monday, 20 November 2023 to Saturday, 2 December 2023,” read a bulletin issued Thursday evening.
Besides Mumbai metropolitan city, the water supply will also be disrupted in parts of Thane as well as Bhiwandi.
Requesting cooperation from citizens, the civic body has appealed to the residents to use water cautiously for the upcoming 13 days, during which repair works will be carried out.
