The two-day Flower Show organised by Ludhiana Municipal Corporation on Saturday at Rose Garden got a good response from residents and city-based institutions. This year the show has been managed by zonal commissioner Sumit Jarangal, who is himself a green thumb. The civic body received 961 entries in potted plants category on Saturday.
The response was excellent as compared to the flower show organised by the civic body in 2012 under ex-MC commissioner M S Jaggi. The MC had received just 900 entries in potted and cut flower category.
A team of floriculture and horticulture experts from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) judged the potted entries and results will be declared on Sunday at the conclusion of the show.
More than 300 children and adults also participated in the drawing competition organised on the spot under two categories.
Meanwhile,Jarangal, talking to Ludhiana Newsline, said: We received massive response and the aim with which we organised the show is accomplished, which is to make residents aware about keeping city green. Residents have shown massive interest and thus we will organize more shows in future.
Surinder Kumar, landscaping officer, said: We received seasonal flowers like panzi, petunia, dahlia, ester, calenduli, gazzina and and many others. Along with residents many institutions and schools also participated.
All are invited to watch or participate in cut flowers category on Sunday at Rose Garden, Jarangal added. All results will be announced on the spot.
We are expecting to cross 1,200 entries this year, said Surinder Kumar.
