Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat,C P Joshi, has expressed shock and concern over the Indira Aawas Yojana and literacy mission scam which rocked the district administration recently.
After presiding over a meeting of the district level vigilance and monitoring committee Joshi said,The Center provides Rs 45,000 for each house under the scheme which the state government through its zila panchayats and gram panchayats has to construct for BPL families. This scam came up at the meeting and I was shocked to know that the money sent by the Centre for these schemes to Ludhiana was siphoned off by officials. I hope that the Punjab government ensures a fair probe and books the culprits.

The government is conducting an audit of this scheme while the police is also investigating the matter. However,if we are not satisfied with the manner in which this probe is moving we will approach the Center and call for a CAG audit and a probe by the CBI.
He has also called for proper implementation of welfare schemes both at the state and district levels and said officials should ensure that the fruit of these scheme reaches the real beneficiaries.
