While a large part of the city and its residents will be busy enjoying the festival of Diwali,a section of the officials will be up on their feet all night just to ensure that these residents have a safe Diwali.

50 firemen to be on night-long duty; entire police force will be out on roads; hospitals to ready special plastic surgery & trauma teams

While a large part of the city and its residents will be busy enjoying the festival of Diwali,a section of the officials will be up on their feet all night just to ensure that these residents have a safe Diwali. Be it is be the fire department,the police or the medical fraternity on call,in unison the officials says,“Please celebrate a safe Diwali and we are always there in case of an emergency.”

Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tewari said,“True celebrations lie in the fact that we enjoy and let others enjoy too. I wish residents a happy and safe Diwali.”

Additional Divisional Fire Officer Kartar Singh said,“If we go by the record of the last 10 years,then on an average our department gets 40-60 calls each Diwali night. Each year we send out a list of do’s and don’ts but emergency calls still keep pouring in.”

Singh adds,“I have almost 85 men on round-the-clock duty. Forty men will work during the day while the strength will be increased by another 10 men at night.”

“We get all kinds of calls. People leave waste material on their roofs,which catches fire in case a cracker falls on it. We have major fires as well as small incidents. But the fact is that we do not celebrate diwali.”

Wishing residents a great Diwali,Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashish Chaudhry said,“Our men are on high alert and the entire force will be out on the roads as long as the sound of crackers keeps coming.”

The medical authorities too are on high alert. Dayanand Medical College and Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Sandeep Puri said,“Each year we get around 30 cases of trauma and burn. To combat any kind of emergency,we have put together a team of plastic surgery and trauma specialists.”
