Deputy chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday said that the confusion surrounding payments towards farmers for wheat crop stemmed out of differences in records. He said that it will be sorted out soon.
“It is a fact that since 1997, account books of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) and the Punjab government have not been matched and hence, the confusion. We have taken up the matter with PM Modi and he has assured that accounts books will be matched soon. However, payment to farmers will not be delayed any further,” said Sukhbir Badal when he visited Ludhiana to distribute smart health cards to small industrialists.
He added at the same time state has been assured that RBI will continue with cash credit limit. Farmers in the markets have not been paid for their produce while nearly 70% of the stock has come in Mandis.

Sukhbir alleged that rival parties were spreading wrong information over this issue.
He attacked Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. “First Kejriwal should clear his stand over SYL and then only should he level allegations against anyone else.”
Meanwhile, Sukhbir said that as per the Bhagat Puran Singh Beema Yojna, small industrialists with annual turnover of less than Rs 1 crore will be given smart health cards through which they can get cashless health treatment worth Rs 50,000 per annum at select hospitals, while Rs 5 lakh will be offered as life insurance cover in case of any mishap.
