Rains add to Aggar Nagar locals’ woes

The residents of Aggar Nagar Block-A are having a harrowing time as roads in their area have been lying dug-up in the past three weeks. The Ludhiana Co-operative House Building Society Limited, which owns the colony,is carrying out the work of widening the roads in the colony.

The encroachments in front of houses, which are used for ornamental plantation, have now reduced to 9 inches to make way for wider areas and increased parking space.

But the delay in the work along with the rains has added to the woes of the residents.

Baldev Krishan,a resident of the society, said,“There is no space to park a car in front of houses.” Another resident Janak Raj Garg adds that during the first week, there were only five to six labourers. As their speed of demolishing the roads and encroachments manually was very slow,a crane was used. It reduced the whole street into debris in few minutes but the re-building work is not being carried out at the same speed.” The tractors supplying the materials further cover the metalled part of the remaining road. Rain is delaying the work further as the entire debris has turned into a muddy pool.

However,F C Kaushal, manager of the society, said,“It will take one more week for work to get completed in A-block. The speed of the work depends on the funds available with the society and some more laborers have been hired for the job.” The same work has not yet started in Aggar Nagar B-block.
