PSEB hikes exam centre fees for affiliated schools

The Punjab School Education Board,Mohali, has increased the fee of affiliated schools for creating examination centres to Rs 20,000 and the continuation fee to Rs 5,000.

The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB),Mohali, has increased the fee of affiliated schools for creating examination centres to Rs 20,000 and the continuation fee to Rs 5,000. This has created a lot of resentment among affiliated schools.

Calling it sheer injustice,PSEB Affiliated Schools President Rajinder Sharma said,“It is not right on the part of PSEB to increase our fee to almost 10 times that of government schools. For government schools, the fee for creating a new examination centre is Rs 2,200 and the continuation fee is Rs 500. However, for aided schools the fee is Rs 5,000 for creating examination centres and Rs 1,000 as continuation fee. We have also written to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to reconsider this increased fee structure, which will burn a big hole in pockets of parents.”

He further said,“Till last year the Board used to pay schools for checking answer sheets of theory and practical exams in Environmental Science and Computer Science for class X and XII. But today the PSEB district depot received a letter from the Board,in which it stated that from now on Board would not pay any amount to affiliated schools for evaluation work of these two subjects.”

Sharma said,“It is sheer injustice for the affiliated schools. Who will pay the teachers who check the answer sheets of class X and XII students for these two subjects.”

The Punjab School Education Board has replaced the annual system of class X and XII with the semester system. So the Board is also charging fees separately for both these semesters. On this,N K Bangia, convener of the Association, said,“Paying fees twice a year will also fall heavily into the pockets of parents of students. The semester system should again be replaced by the annual system.”

He added that the Board has also declared November 15 the last date for submitting examination forms, which is too early. “The date should be extended as the first semester exams ended on October 30 and the results are yet to be declared,” he said.

Suresh Tandon,vice-chairman of PSEB,Mohali, said,“The results of the first semester of class X and XII will be declared by the last week of November. There will be no merit list for the first semester result and it will be released schoolwise. As far as the continuation fee increase is concerned,we are getting representations about it. The Board may reconsider it.”
