Preparations going on for MC House oath-taking function

Whitewashing of the Municipal Corporation (MC) Zone A building is on so as to keep it ready for the September 21 oath-taking ceremony.

Whitewashing of the Municipal Corporation (MC) Zone A building is on so as to keep it ready for the September 21 oath-taking ceremony. In addition to this, the carpets and chairs of the committee room are being dry-cleaned so as to give the room a cleaner look during the ceremony. Two sweepers can be seen on each floor, cleaning each and every nook and corner. Municipal Corporation Commissioner R K Verma said,“The building needed a whitewash and cleaning of carpets. So the necessary steps are being taken.”

The Commissioner has also decided to have his head office in the Zone A building, which is another reason why the office is being spruced up. It needs to be mentioned that Zone A always used to be the head office, with the MC commissioner sitting here. But due to traffic congestion in this part of the city,Commissioners started sitting in Zone D for most of the time and this office used to lie vacant.

Verma, however, confirmed that he would be sitting in Zone A only as “most of the branches of accounts, house tax etc have their main records in this zone. So functioning was being affected a lot and at times it used to take more than two hours to get some documents. I,therefore, decided to sit in this office for most of the time. If necessary,I can sit in other zonal offices as well once in a while.” With the commissioner,it seems that even the new mayor, too, will sit for most of the time in this office. For a long time, the mayor was hardly available here.

The commissioner was not very happy with the condition of the Zone A office and has, hence, agreed that the building needs some vital changes so as to make it look like a corporate office where people can feel happy to get their work done.
