The Police Commemoration Day was observed at the Police Lines here on Monday. The function was organised to pay tribute to the martyrs of Hot Springs (Ladakh) who were attacked by Chinese troops and also the 576 police martyrs who laid down their lives for the country from September 1,2012 till August 31,2013.

The function stretched long due to which one jawan fainted while doing parade. Though the function was to start at 7.30 am,the jawans were standing from 6.30 am onwards. Weakness or hunger was being cited as the reason for the jawan’s fainting. Poor physical fitness of the new recruits was also being held responsible for the incident.

Jawans are given training in how to relax if they stand for long hours at a particular spot. Poor physical standards often come across during recruitment drives. Lack of proper workouts and healthy diet are cited as important reasons for dropping physical standards.
