Sarup Singh Alag,77, noted writer,former Government officer and a social worker has never charged anyone for reading his books. He is the author of 93 publications and the founder chairman of Alag Shabad Yug International Charitable Trust (regd). His trust distributes books free of cost across various libraries in the country. So far,his trust has distributed 30 lakh such copies in English,Hindi,Punjabi,Gujarati and Bengali. His books mainly deal with peace,harmony,Sikh glory and Indian heritage. The trust is operating for more than 2 decades and so far books worth crores have been distributed free of cost,said Alag. He added that the then Prime Minister I K Gujral honoured him and his wife for the selfless humanitarian service. Alag who is has a masters in History,Urdu,Punjabi and Economics,also has diplomas in Sanskrit,Linguistics,German,Education and teaching. He has written five books An introduction to Sri Guru Granth Sahib,Harmander Darshan,Hair power,An excellence in Sikhism,Curse of Female Foeticide,Ill Effects of Drug Addiction. He said his mission was to enlighten todays youths and bring them closer to moral values apart from making them better individuals. The trust runs on voluntary donations and the books are housed in Indian and foreign libraries of UK,Canada,US,Australia. His recent book Chardi Kalan was released in Anandpur Sahib. He is at present working on the topic Dhart Bhai Hariavali. His sons Sukhinder Pal Alag and Raminder Deep Singh Alag who are also trustees said they also distribute the books in schools,colleges and even in gurdwaras.
