Missing man’s body found near Rajpura

The police have booked Gurpreet Singh Kairon, whose cousin sister was allegedly involved in a relationship with the deceased.

The body of a 31-year-old man, who went missing a week ago, was recovered from a river near Rajpura on Wednesday. The family of the deceased, Swaraj Singh, who was a resident of Dhandra road, has alleged that he was murdered after the family of the woman he was allegedly involved with came to know of their relationship.

The Dugri police have booked Gurpreet Singh Kairon, whose cousin sister was allegedly involved in a relationship with the deceased, under section 302 (murder) of the IPC. Gurpreet is a steel trader and a producer in Punjabi film industry.

Complainant Gurmukh Singh, the brother of the deceased, said Swaraj was in a relationship with Gurpreet’s sister. Gurmukh alleged that Gurpreet was harassing the deceased after he came to know of the relationship. He further alleged that the accused hired contract killers who disposed of his brother’s body outside Ludhiana to eliminate suspicion.

A post mortem was conducted at the civil hospital on Wednesday, the report for which is still awaited, police said. Assistant sub inspector Harinder Pal Singh from the Dugri police station Dugri said Gurpreet Singh Kairon was absconding.
