Midday meal worker suffers burn injuries,union demands aid

Jaswinder Kaur,a 30-year-old midday meal cook working at Government Primary School Ladhowal,suffered serious burn injuries while she was cooking daal inside the temporary kitchen two days back.

Jaswinder Kaur,a 30-year-old midday meal cook working at Government Primary School Ladhowal,suffered serious burn injuries while she was cooking daal inside the temporary kitchen two days back. The pressure cooker burst,blowing away the aluminium sheet of the kitchen roof and causing serious injuries to her.

However,a major tragedy was averted as children were away from the kitchen. The cover of the cooker was not found as the pressure was so huge that it fell away outside the school building.

Kaur is admitted to the Civil Hospital at the moment and has suffered burn injuries to her chest,hands,face and many other body parts. Her condition is stated to be out of danger but she will take about three-four months to return to work,according to doctors.

Parveen Kumari,president of Democratic Midday Meal Cooks Union,Ludhiana,demanded financial help from the state government for the treatment of the poor woman. She also appealed to people to help the patient because she has two kids while her husband is partially handicapped.

Kumari said since the cook got injured inside the school,the treatment should be borne by the government.
