The health department and the corporation had collected water samples from 38 sites at Giaspura,Fauji Colony,Sherpur,Dhandari. The report of the health department shows 12 of the 14 samples failed the test.

The corporation, meanwhile, has disconnected eight illegal water connections. Executive engineer Kamlesh Bansal said,“At least 200 people live in a house meant for five to seven persons, and there is hardly any distance between the toilet and the kitchen. The toilets are usually in the open and people do not have the habit to flush. In such conditions,an epidemic is obvious.”

“We have checked pipelines, there is no leakage. Still we have disconnected a few illegal connections,” he added.

While the corporation is holding residents squarely responsible for the outbreak, the city streets are still littered and the garbage dumps are overflowing.
