With the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation and Railways playing blame game over it for the past 16 years,the Lakkar bridge got a new deadline on Tuesday.

Chairman of Passenger Amenities Committee Jagdish Chander,who visited the Ludhiana railway station on Tuesday,said that the Railways would complete the bridge by December 22.

Accompanied by DRM of Ferozepur railway division N C Goyal,Chander inspected the station and said that the design and funding were all ready for installing escalators on the local railway station and work on it would start within a month.

Chander said it was only after the intervention of Ludhiana MP Manish Tewari that this special inspection had been done and the work to complete the bridge,which was proposed way back in 1997,had been accelerated.

The proposal for prepaid taxis which would be run in coordination with traffic police was ready and would be sent to the railway board,he said. A new reservation window,a new Shatabdi from Ludhiana to New Delhi,a new restaurant and extension of Bathinda train to Jodhpur and Bikaner up to Ludhiana were also on the cards,he said.
