Around 100 jhuggis were demolished during a demolition drive carried out by the MC near Cheema chowk on Wednesday. Joint commisisoner M.S Jaggi supervised this operation. Jhuggis had been removed from this site in the past as well,only to see the encroachers coming back. According to reports,this space had been identified for relocation of the kiosks functioning near ITI on Gill road.

Showroom opens
A Bombay-based company,White Cube Retails Pvt Ltd on Wednesday opened its first showroom with the name “Deep fashion gallery” at the National road,Ghumar Mandi. Owners of the showroom,Amandeep Singh and Paramjit Singh told mediapersons that garments like trousers,shirts,jeans,blazers,shirts,tops,skirts,jackets,and sweaters were available in the showroom.

School holds fete
DRV DAV Centenary Public School,Phillaur,organised a fete – Punjabi Virsa — in the school premises on Wednesday. Ishwar Chander Sharma,DIG,and Kawaljit Singh Lally,former parliamentary secretary,were the chief guests on the occasion. On this occasion,different games were organized for the entertainment. Students from LKG to third standard were awarded with prizes. Various stalls of eatables were also installed on the occasion

Annual day
The primary wing of BCM School,Dugri,celebrated the annual day with enthusiasm under the theme “Masti ki Pathshala”. Students clad in beautiful attire showcased their talent and skills by presenting various dances through which they depicted the unity in diversity of India. The mesmerised the audience in particular through “Rajasthani dance.”

9/11 survivor stresses on positive thinking
“If you want to feel good,do good to others”. This was stated by Ram Singal,while delivering a lecture on “Positive thinking” to the faculty and students of Punjab Agricultural University,today. The lecture was organised by PAU Science Club. Singal,an engineer by profession,was among those who survived September 9,2001,attack on World Trade Centre,New York.
Sharing his experiences,Singal said he was sitting in his office on 64th floor when the plane hit the building. Without getting panicky,not only he himself came out of the building alive but he helped many others to come out unscathed.
