Free heart surgeries for govt schoolchildren
Ludhiana:The Christian Medical College & Hospital has been chosen by the Punjab Government for free heart surgeries of schoolchildren. Dr AG Thomas,Director,CMCH,said the institute was approached by the Health Department for the same under a scheme by the Health Minister. He said,Any child who is studying in a government or a government-aided school can either come to CMC or go to the Civil Hospital with a letter from the principal of the school. After a check-up and a confirmation his surgery will be performed with the charges being borne by the government. He further said the cardiac surgery department has already set some benchmarks in the treatment of children with heart disorders.
Free diabetes camp held at DMCH
Ludhiana:The Dayanand Medical College and Hospital organised a free diabetes camp in the OPD block of the hospital on Saturday. About 300 patients were examined during the camp and provided a free medical check-up. The patients were also tested for body mass and fat analysis,blood sugar,tests for diabetic foot. Insulin pens were also distributed. The camp was inaugurated by Secretary of DMCH Managing Society Prem Kumar Gupta.
Arya College excels in youth festival
Ludhiana:Arya College excelled in the 51st Punjab University Inter-zonal Youth Festival held at Dev Samaj College,Ferozepur. Hardeep Singh Basi got the first position in mimicry,he will now represent the Panjab University in the All-India Inter-University Youth festival going to take place at Kurushetra. Puneet Bhardwaj in cartooning and Madeep kaur stood second in hand-fan competition.
Xpressions-2009 organsied at Tagore
Ludhiana: Tagore Public School organised Xpressions-2009 an exhibition of different subjects. Archana Garg,wife of Deputy Commissioner Vikas Garg was the chief guest. The students displayed their talent by making working models and other models of science,chemistry,economics,physics and languages.
Blood donation camp held
Ludhiana:The DMC organised a voluntary blood donation camp with the help of Bharat Vikas Parishad,Patran,in which 75 units of blood were collected. Vinod Goyal,president of the society,said, In this camp,Dr Rajesh Kumar,Assistant Professor,Department of Transfusion Medicine,threw a light on the myths and facts related to blood donation.
City schools celebrate Childrens Day
Ludhiana: Childrens Day was celebrated with much enthusiasm at all schools across the city. The GRD Academy held a colourful programme and also a fancy dress show. Teachers presented songs,self-composed poems and dance item. At the end,children were distributed chocolates. While Sportking Institute of Fashion Technology also celebrated Childrens Day on its premises. The students were welcomed with a flower shower and ample number of games. Students and faculty played games which was followed by a dance party. At GN International School in Model Town,the students of pre-primary classes had a poetry recitation competition,one-minute games,dance competition,singing competition,riddle telling and mimicry. Senior students also displayed their talents in their respective classrooms. The day ended with the distribution of gifts and candies to students. The easyday market also held Kids Carnival at JMD Govardhan Mall. About 450 children from nearby schools participated in it.
GND Polytechnic wins overall championship trophy
Ludhiana:The Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) organised students annual convention-cum-national techno-cultural symposium,Minerva 2009 at RIEIT in Railmajra recently. Various engineering colleges and polytechnics of Punjab,HP,J&K and Chandigarh participated in it. Guru Nanak Dev Polytechnic College,Ludhiana,won the Overall Best Performance Championship Polytechnic College Award.
