‘Ignorant’ school heads asked to become computer literate

Despite the availability of computers and Internet in all the government schools of the state.

Despite the availability of computers and Internet in all the government schools of the state, many headmasters and principals are yet unaware about the functioning of these equipment. And when any high officers asks them as to why they did not reply to his mail, they come up with excuse,“We do not know how to check an e-mail.”

Following these lame excuses,Director General Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan (DGSA) Krishan Kumar pulled up school headmasters and principals of different schools of the Ludhiana district in a meeting held on Thursday at R S Model Senior Secondary School. The DGSA asked all such heads to learn computer from computer teachers of their respective schools and start sending him mails and replying to his mails.

The worst is that some heads and teachers of the government schools even do not know how to send SMS. One of such heads said,“I do not know how to send SMS. I hardly check any SMS. I use my cell phone only for listening and making calls.” Listening to this, the DGSA asked this headmaster,”Please take the help of someone and learn how to send SMS.”

On the other hand, computer teachers of such government schools are overworked. Requesting anonymity a computer teacher said,“I have to work even on Sundays from home because my school principal does not know how to check mails.”
