After three days of soft pedalling the entire issue,the Jagraon police seem to have finally sprung into action with another arrest today in the suspected honour killing case. Not only did the police recover the body of the boy, Gagandeep Singh,they made three arrests on Monday and have found the girl in question too.
The minor girl,niece of local congress leader Saudagar Singh,was located at a fellow Congressmans home in Rammoowalia village,near Moga. The police has also arrested a lady who along with another woman allegedly kidnapped the girl from Jagraon bus stand while two men took the boy away. It has also been learnt that the second lady involved in this crime has been identified and she is undergoing treatment for cancer at a local hospital.
In another major step which has come as a huge relief for the family of the deceased boy,DIG Paramraj Singh Umranangal sent SHO Jagraon city Inderjeet Singh to the police lines. The SHO was sent to the police lines following public pressure,the DIG said. Umranangal who has handed over the inquiry to Superintendent of Police P S Goraya said: We are investigating this case very closely and anyone found guilty will not be spared. At the same time if we find any police official working to shield the accused,we will initiate a departmental inquiry against them.
Meanwhile,the boys family claimed his body from the police on Tuesday morning and he was cremated amongst heart rending scenes. The Police at the same time are working under pressure after many local Dalit and left front organisations rallied behind the boys family. It has also been learnt that the family of Jathedar Jagdev Singh Talwandi, a leading Akali family of the region,has also pledged its support to the family and urged the police to ensure that the guilty are punished.
