Election dates yet to be announced

While the dates for the Sutlej Club elections are yet to be announced, heavy lobbying, parties with expensive dinner menus and booze flowing like water have already begun. Taking the lead one group in fray for the elections led by Gulshan Kumar of the G K Estates and Sanjeev Dhanda who is the current general secretary of the club held a huge party in G K Resorts late Sunday evening where well known singer Arshdeep kaur was invited to entertain the guests.

Dhanda however claims that this party was just a friendly party and “nothing more. I have announced my candidature for the post general secretary of the club once again and will seek votes on the basis of development work that I have done for the club”.

Similarly, the second group in fray for these elections that have come to hold a lot of prestige in the city is led by Gurinderjit Singh Laddi and Dr Rohit Datta is more honest in his approach. This group is organising a party at Whistling woods on Monday evening.

“This is small party nothing big or expensive. There will be no music or anything of the sorts. This is just a gathering to apprise the 3,000 odd members of the group about the works and plans that we have in mind for this club.” Laddi is in the fray for the post of vice-president while Dr Dutta will contest the highly pitched polls for the post of general secretary.

Latti Bawa a club member, who is also in the fray for the post of cultural secretary of the club, said,“We are working towards bringing in some clean cultural activities to the club. There are big-time industrial families of the city who stay away from the club because of its activities. We want to invite these families back to into the club fold.”

Bawa faces competition from his own relative Ruchi Bawa, who happens to be the daughter-in-law of his cousin.

Meanwhile,Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rahul Tewaro, who is ex officio president of the club,is working towards curbing the wasteful expenditures and expensive parties that have come to be a part of these elections.

“I will be holding the general body meeting of the club members tomorrow at which the dates of the elections and the entire schedule will be announced. After this no parties will be allowed and any one doing such things will be suspended,” he said.

Tewari claimed,“As of now,I have two sets of elections schedules and will finalise one after a meeting with my officials which will be held tomorrow.”
